GOD’S CALL
Desi after miraculously escaping the Iron Curtain from Hungary to the free world on December 11, 1956 – one boy all alone at the age of 9 - under the direction of God: never saw his homeland or family until November of 1974 - 18 years later. After his miraculous escape, he spent 7 glorious weeks alone in the foreign country of Austria. Found by his older brother Barnabas, they landed in Halifax Canada at Pier 21, on February 28, 1957. Five days later on March 5th, they arrived at the Refugee camp at the Abbotsford Airport, where several prospects for a foster home came forward: But Mr. Jim and Mrs. Julia Sabo and the dairy farm on the corner of Dixon and Wells Line Road on Sumas Prairie Abbotsford were God’s choice and also won Desi’s heart. I owe so much to my Foster parents, and once I committed my life to Jesus at a young age, I knew that the best gift I could ever give back to my Hungarian Foster parents and my foster family for all the love kindness they treated me with – was to introduce them to the Gospel of God’s Kingdom. I am elated that through a series of miracles both my foster parents found Jesus as their Lord and Savior prior to them dying. They were good, moral nominal Christians throughout their lifetime. But Dad Sabo had a healthy fear of death that he had spoken about privately in front of both Martha and I - in the presence of his wife on 2 separate occasions. His supernatural encounter in Jesus becoming his Lord and Savior, just minutes before he died and the tremendous peace and even the smile that was on his face following his death at the Abbotsford hospital on January 31, 1978 was phenomenal and clear for all the family to see. The many miracles of God through out my lifetime as well as the life of my family are things that I need to write about in the near future. In 1962 I landed myself for a period of 5 months in the home Henry and Mary Schulz, and the revival that was taking place at the Glad Tidings church on Gladwin Rd. Ivan Oesch, with his sister Darlene Robinson, and Lyle – Ivan’s older brother, who were still living at home at the time, became my foster family for a season. After five months I returned to the Sabos again, temporarily turning my back on the Lord at the same time - but not entirely. The next two years I stayed with the Sabos, and feeling unworthy and being a nuisance to them, especially when my foster mom was going through menopause, I left again and on Easter Sunday 1965 I returned to the Schultz’ home, where I lived for the next 2 years. I want to thank both of my foster parents (even though they have gone to be with the Lord) and both my foster families and the family of God at the Old Abbotsford Glad Tidings church (now Abbotsford Christian Assembly) for being there for me in the 1960s: and also my family in the 1970s for being there for us, when we needed them. God pushed us out of the nest (church home) in 1977: to experience His amazing grace and keeping power and bringing us into the Truths of God which He has been teaching us over the years. Those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth: (in the power of the Holy Spirit – working in their lives and making the Word of God the living Word in them) – so that the world can see the difference that God makes in those that are truly Christian in their life and example and not just religious - saying they are Christian, but they deny the Power of God to truly change them, and to transform them into the image of His Son – Jesus Christ. All of God’s Creation today is groaning to see the manifestation of the sons of God: Jesus our Lord being the Firstborn of the many brethren that are being brought into the glory of God the Father, so that the very nature of the Father in heaven is glorified in them and through them. The very nature of God and of His Son, being manifested in them and through them to a dying world around them!
