We had the
opportunity to show the DVD on Transformations 3, on someone else’s computer
(something we badly need – a lap top or note book as they now call them): to
prominent leaders in the community. We were able to help the poorest of the
poor with food, clothing and in one family’s case, build them a house. (These
people had been left homeless in the floods of 2000 and 2001 and had never
recovered.)
Among
the poor that we ministered to we saw salvations, and healings. We were able
to find people and children that were displaced and homeless and that no one
knew they even existed and a few children we were able to bring to the
orphanage.
Along
with helping at the orphanage, we were able to go and minister in the
villages. Many times Desi and I would set out for a walk and along the path
people we didn’t know would walk up to us and want us to pray for them.
Others would see this and start lining up behind them also wanting prayer.
Once we went to a pastor’s conference and on that Sunday, Desi was sent out to
one church to minister and I to another. After ministering the Word, I was
asked to pray for the sick. Of course the whole church comes up for prayer.
While I was praying for people, on 2 occasions I stopped and asked them
through an interpreter if they were visiting the witch doctor. They responded
yes. I explained to them that they could not serve two masters, and was able
to lead them to Jesus as Lord of their life.
One of
the greatest thrills for me personally, when I was invited to speak at a
church or a women’s meeting was to tell these people, some of them the poorest
people on this earth that God had a plan and destiny for them in the life.
They were not born and then destined to die early from aids, etcetera. They
were born for a purpose in this life, not just die and go to heaven. I was
able to minister to them on being faithful and the purposes of God.
I
would always receive good reports back after I ministered. Desi would
minister on revival and the message God had given him on the great shakings of
God. He was well received. We have many invitations to go minister at
pastor’s conferences both in Malawi and Mozambique. But at this time we felt
an urgency to come home after being there - one week short of 3 months.
We
phoned the airlines and they said there were no seats available until the end
of September. We prayed and just moved ahead in faith for August 7th.
We also booked a guesthouse in Lilongwe for August 5 and 6 where we usually
stay before we leave the country. On Thursday, August 4th we found
out that someone had cancelled for the 7th - and we were able to
go. God is so faithful!
As we
came home we have a project to present. It is a small 10 bed private
hospital, badly needed for that area. People that need a few days treatment
are dying unnecessarily because of the distance to a hospital. Our doctor
friend and his wife (also a registered nurse) are wonderful Christians, and
who have a genuine shepherd’s heart as well as a servant’s heart. They are
very hard working people and take their jobs seriously. The clinic or small
hospital they want to build is not a large high cost project, but it will save
many lives. The cost of this project will be approximately 6,000 US dollars.
In Canada or the USA one cannot even buy a decent used car for that kind of
money, let alone build a hospital.
We now
have our own charity number from the Canadian Government for Feeding the
Hungry. Our first project was building a home for a homeless family. This is
our next project. God bless you all and thank you for praying for us. We
were not sick with malaria and stayed healthy. Love in Jesus Martha
and Desi
